The Village Square Continues ‘Fast Forward Tallahassee’
Forum Focuses on New Projects, Business and Ideas Around Town
(TALLAHASSEE, FL) – May 2, 2016 – Hometowns with a “sense of place” are vibrant, engaged, growing and economically successful. They are places people want to live and raise families. There are new reasons every day why this describes Tallahassee.
On Thursday, May 5, The Village Square hosts “OUR TOWN: Fast Forward Tallahassee,” a spirited look at what’s new and what’s coming in Tallahassee. The program will be moderated by co-host of WCTV’s The Usual Suspects, Gary Yordon.
Co-sponsored by Knight Creative Communities Institute (KCCI), Leadership Tallahassee, the Tallahassee Democrat, Leon County, and the City of Tallahassee, “Fast Forward” will be fast-paced. Presentations follow a PechaKucha format (Japanese for “chit chat”) with a maximum of 20 slides that advance automatically after 20 seconds. There will be time for the audience to ask questions and to share information about what is new and coming soon.
Among this year’s presentations are a bird’s eye view of our hometown by Aerial Tallahassee’s Alex Workman; “See Tallahassee & Discover the Districts” by KCCI’s Betsy Couch; updates from Urban Tallahassee’s T.J. Lewis; “Trains, Planes, Automobiles (& Bikes)” by Tallahassee Airport’s Chris Curry, City Commissioner Scott Maddox, Leon County’s Tony Park and Blueprint 2000’s Autumn Calder; “Small Business Outside the Box” by Social Catering’s Amanda Morrison; “Tallahassee: The Sunshine State’s Solar Capital” by the City of Tallahassee’s Reese Goad; “Keeping PACE in Leon County” by Maggie Theriot; “Tally Job Hop” by Lester Hutt; and “INIE-thing is Possible!” by INIE’s Jessica Lowe-Minor.
A special dessert break will be provided by Reangthai Restaurant, featuring Chef Donna’s unique homemade banana leaf ice cream.
This program is part of The Village Square’s “Our Town” series, aimed at growing an informed and engaged community through programs like “Fast Forward Tallahassee,” the annual “Tallahassee Town Hall,” “Speed Date Your Local Leaders,” and “Club of Honest Citizens,” a program offered in partnership with Leon County. The series has received funding support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation through the Community Foundation of North Florida.
“Fast Forward Tallahassee” will be held Thursday, May 5, 5:30 to 7:30 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 211 N. Monroe St. (enter at rear Calhoun St. entrance). It is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Participants are asked to make a reservation and to present their printed ticket at the door, and are invited to bring a take-out dinner or purchase dinner from food trucks parked outside St. John’s from 5:00 to 5:45 pm. Dessert and coffee will be provided.
