When God Talks Back
Evangelicals experience an intimate personal connection with God, daily present in their lives. Is it possible for nonbelievers to understand – with less judgment – the evangelical experience of God, intimate and present in their daily lives? Could believers come to understand the real challenges their worldview presents to modern rationalism? With God revealed so privately for an evangelical Christian, can we have a productive public conversation that doesn’t deepen division when it starts with the assertion that God’s on “my side.” We’ll reflect back on the 2014 election season that has (probably thankfully) come to an end.
We’ll be working from T.R. Luhrmann’s “When God Talks Back: Understanding the American Evangelical Relationship with God” – a book that’s gotten rave reviews from both sides of this American divide.
