THE VILLAGE SQUARE LAUNCHES 16th SEASON OF GOD SQUAD SERIES
Improbable Conversations on Faith and Politics Continue
(TALLAHASSEE, FL) – **DATE** – The Village Square’s God Squad returns for the 16th season of high-minded, respectful conversations on current controversial topics at the intersection of faith and politics. For people of faith or no faith at all — because talking politics wasn’t hard enough — the God Squad is proof that great things happen when people of goodwill engage respectfully across their differences.
During the 2025-26 season, this diverse panel of faith leaders will wade into challenging topics:
October 10, 2025, noon-1:00 PM at First Baptist Church: Immigration (yes, we’re going there).
In a bold, brave test of our hypothesis that God Squad can talk about anything, we’re going to jump right into the deep end and talk about a raging issue of our time: immigration. Complex with many competing moral imperatives, the question of who can come into the country and when has been swept into our partisan escalation more than most. God Squad will have a go at articulating a thoughtful approach, free of the political baggage.
November 7, 2025, noon-1:00 PM at First Baptist Church: Why does God Squad even work?
For 15 years now, God Squad has quietly defied the fashion to avoid talking with people who don’t look and think like us. In celebration of 15 years of friendship across differences, we thought it was high time to get a little meta and talk about what holds us together — year after year after year — when so very much is falling apart. We’re inviting God Squad veterans back to have a say, including God Squad co-founder Liz Joyner.
February 13, 2026, noon-1:00 PM at Temple Israel: Us vs Them, Good vs Evil.
The hallmarks of high conflict include a narrowing middle ground, the growing sense of a binary “us vs. them” narrative—and absolute clarity that “we” are the good guys in the story, and “they” are the black hats. Some of this might feel a little new to us, but this accelerating vicious cycle of conflict is how most of human history has unfolded. Before there was a Magna Carta and Constitution, life was a Manichaean cosmic struggle between good and evil and it wasn’t pretty. This will be a wide-ranging discussion of human history and human nature.
April 10, 2026, noon-1:00 PM at location TBD: Old Lady Liberty is 250 (and she’s having an identity crisis).
Lately, it’s pretty hard to zero in on what we have in common as a people. It often feels like we’re living in alternate realities with completely different sets of values and priorities. What would it take for us to more widely agree on a national narrative, and what are the dangers of failing to do so? God Squad will make a valiant attempt to wrestle some transcendent principles out of the partisan mud pit—principles that stand a chance of leading us into a better time.
God Squad regulars include Father Tim Holeda of the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More, Pastor Josh Hall of First Baptist Church, Pastor Joseph Davis, Jr. of Truth Gatherers Community Church, and Rabbi Paul Sidlofsky of Temple Israel. Guest panelists will be invited along the way to join these discussions as well.
Tickets to God Squad programs invite a $10 donation; however, complimentary ticket options are available as well. Advance registration is encouraged as seating is limited. To learn more or to register, visit tlh.villagesquare.us.
