God Squad

Police & Community

As we watch other communities struggle so demonstrably – and at extraordinary cost – with dissension between residents in poor communities and law enforcement, it’s easy to simply be at peace that it’s happening somewhere else.  But because all of the same factors are swirling around low-income communities in Tallahassee as are in cities where events have turned violent, we’ve got to be asking ourselves hard questions about our hometown.  What is the relationship like between TPD, LCSD and Tallahassee’s poorest communities?  Are our young people safe to grow up and out of poverty as we pray they will? And what is the role of the faith community in this ongoing important American challenge?
